The cap star!
First thing I would like to say is, IT IS A CAP STAR and NOT the cap badge!

The cap star is an eight pointed star of the most illustrious order of st pattrick.
In the center is a SHAMROCK, super imposed on each leaf of the shamrock is a state of imperial crown of Ireland.
Behind the sharock is the cross of ST PATRICK.
Below it are the roman numerals "MDCCLXXXIII" which stands for 1783, the year the ORDER was formed.
Above are the words "QUIS SEPERABIT" which is the regimental motto and it stands for WHO SHALL SEPERATE US"

"QUIS SEPERABIT" meaning"WHO SHALL SEPERATE US!!"
